About This Project
A production-grade government web platform developed for the Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board (AK-SUBEB), the state agency responsible for coordinating free, compulsory basic education across public primary and junior secondary schools. The platform serves as the board's central digital presence — giving parents, teachers, contractors, and the public structured access to educational programmes, school data, teacher development initiatives, ongoing infrastructure projects, policy documents, news, and government resources. Built with a React frontend and a Python backend, the site was engineered for reliability, clarity, and ease of content management by non-technical government staff.
The Challenge
Building a government-grade platform meant balancing competing demands: the site had to present a large, constantly-changing volume of public data (schools, programmes, teacher initiatives, ongoing projects) in a clear, navigable structure, while remaining fully manageable by non-technical government staff after handover. Performance and accessibility were critical given the wide range of user devices and connectivity levels across the state, and as a public institutional platform, the build also carried strict expectations around security, uptime, and content accuracy — all within the review and approval cycles typical of a government client.
Our Solution
Delivered a decoupled architecture with a Python backend powering a REST API and a React frontend consuming it, allowing content and presentation to scale independently. Structured the data model around the board's real organizational content — schools, programmes, news, projects, and resources — so updates could be managed through an admin interface without developer involvement. Prioritized a lightweight, mobile-first frontend to ensure fast load times on lower-bandwidth connections, paired with clean semantic markup for accessibility and SEO. Worked iteratively with the client through review cycles to align the platform with government branding and communication standards before launch.
Results
Successfully launched a stable, publicly accessible government platform that consolidated the board's programmes, school data, and communications into a single, professionally managed digital presence — replacing fragmented or outdated prior information channels and giving AK-SUBEB a reliable, scalable foundation for ongoing public communication.
